Event description

At the occasion of IDEX, the largest International Defense Exhibition & Conference in the Middle East, the BeNeLux Business Council and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands are pleased to invite you to a breakfast session discussing the innovations of BeNeLux companies at the Belgian Residence on 18 February from 8.00 AM to 10.00 AM.

For any society to enjoy prosperity and well-being it is essential that the people in it are, and feel, safe. During this session we will learn more about this topic and the innovations that make this safety possible with the following guest speakers:

Mr. Khalid Lakkis from CMI group (Belgium) will discuss the main activities of CMI (design, installment, and service equipment for energy, defense, steel-making, the environment, the transport and industry in general. Mr. Lakkis will discuss the defense activities, equipment, capacity and locations. Also CMI’s focus on renewable energy (solar + storage +hydrogen) will get attention as well as the steel production and water and gas treatment (environment).

Mr. Rik Verhorst has built his career and vast experience in the international defense market for land-based systems and battlefield communications through employments amongst others at Thales (France), Harris Corp. (USA) and TNO (Netherlands). Mr.
Verhorst joined the Dutch research and technology organization for applied sciences (TNO, The Netherlands) to launch and manage a new growth initiative for innovative offerings for Safety & Security Services. His current focus is on expanding TNO’s Laboratory for Ballistic Research through the establishment of Middle East and Far East localized footprints additional to specialized Test Laboratories and Mine Blast Proofing Grounds. During this breakfast session Mr. Verhorst will talk about TNO, the close cooperation with governments, research institutes and companies and discuss why the Middle East and IDEX are of interest to TNO. Moreover, he will also talk about his co-authorship for a patent (pending registration) for an Electric Responsive Armor (ELRA patent).

This event is sponsored by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium and will take place at the Belgium Ambassador’s Residence in Abu Dhabi. Exact location will be shared after registration.
